Bird in the House

So. Huge storm the other day, and when the boys and I opened the front door to watch it, a BIRD FLEW IN MY HOUSE!!!!!!

It was a really bad storm, and I guess the bird was taking refuge on our porch. Perhaps going inside to dry off seemed like a good idea to the bird - but not to me.

I was trying to snap pictures and stay calm, but I was freaking out on the inside. Seriously, how do you get a wild bird out of your house??

After about 5 minutes (and getting tired of the flash going off in its face), the bird flew into our sliding glass door and fell to the floor. We opened the door, it stood up, and flew back out.

Whew!

Family in our ward found a skunk in their kitchen once. It had come in through a doggy door and was eating cat food.

Have you ever had real-live nature things in your house?

I really can't say that I have had that happen. But my mother in law has an extreme fear of birds. I would have love to see what she would have done! Seriously.. Once a bird flew into her garage and she freaked out, screamed, ran to her bedroom and locked the door.

iieee-yup, the skunk tops them all!

it's me-I was telling Troy about it and he asked if I screamed. I told him that I didn't, but the boys said that I did. Who knew?

I had an owl in my garage when we lived on Salix Cir. It was huge and gorgeous. I tried to keep him in the garage but he would not have it and swooped out when the door opened.

Can't say we have had anything interesting in the house. We did have a hummingbird get caught out in my greenhouse. It couldn't find the out so Tom braved the shelving to catch it. By the time he got it, it was exhausted and just laid flat in his hand. He said it was like holding tissue paper in weight and he had me feel it heartbeat. It was cool! After a bit it decided it wasn't dead, wasn't going to die anytime soon and took off free and clear of the greenhouse.

I had a young wild buck make itself at home in one of the big greenhouses I worked in. We couldn't convince it to leave. It wouldn't spook out. It just looked at us like we were all stupid. So I walked over took it by the horns and walked or dragged depending on it mood, step by step out of the place. It hung around about another week and then took off.

When my horses were younger they had a thing for getting into my shed. Back then they both could fit. But over the years as their butts spread the biggest could only get his head in. But the smaller of the two can still fit. We found this out about two years ago when he managed to not only get himself in, but get the door shut behind him as well. Before it was over he has smashed a $300 air compressed like it was a tin can. Put a huge hole in the floor, and Tom ended up getting kicked and pinned to a tool box trying to rescue the poor poor poor animal. Of course that was not what he was being called when we got the full scoop of the damage he had done. But he found the grain and ate as much as he could stand.. We didn't feed him for a day and half for fear he would explode!!!

Kat...you definitely get the most points for having honest to goodness nature a little too close for comfort!

I have four kids. They are real live nature beasts sometimes. Does that count?

Grandma had owls fly in from her chimney once. We all still laugh about it.
